Core is now called Essential
Microsoft renamed this tier in October 2025. Core became Essential, and existing subscribers were moved across. Same subscription, new name, so whichever of the two you were searching for, this is it.
What it gives you
Online console multiplayer, which replaced Xbox Live Gold. Without it you cannot play most games online against other people on an Xbox.
It also includes a rotating library of games, smaller than on the higher tiers, and member discounts in the store.
Why a French key
Microsoft operates no Xbox store for most African countries, so players here register their Microsoft account elsewhere. Francophone players usually pick France, which puts the store, the game pages and Microsoft’s support in French.
This key matches that choice. If your account is American instead, take the US version.

Essential, Premium or Ultimate
Essential is the cheapest route to online play, and for many people it is the only tier they need.
Premium, formerly Standard, adds a much larger library. Ultimate adds day-one releases, PC titles and cloud gaming, at roughly three times the price.
About cloud gaming: it needs a fast, stable connection, and on most lines here it will not be usable. If that is the feature drawing you to Ultimate, it is not worth the difference.

- Enter the twenty-five-character code from your email.
