Read this before paying the Premium difference
Premium’s headline feature is cloud streaming: playing a game that runs on Sony’s servers instead of your console. It needs a fast, stable connection with low latency, held steady for the whole session.
On most connections in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal or Kenya, it will not be usable. The picture will break up, the controls will lag, and you will stop trying after twenty minutes.
We are telling you this on the product page because it is the main reason people pay for Premium and then regret it. If streaming is why you are here, take Extra instead and spend the difference on something you will use.
The real reasons to take Premium
Two of them, and both are worth something.
The classics catalogue: games from the original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS3, downloadable rather than streamed. If you grew up on those machines, this is a library you cannot easily assemble any other way.
Game trials: a few hours of a major new release before deciding whether to buy it. At fifty to eighty dollars a game, one avoided purchase a year covers a good part of the upgrade.
Everything from the lower tiers
Premium includes what Extra and Essential give you: online multiplayer, the monthly games, 100 GB of cloud saves, store discounts, and the catalogue of several hundred downloadable titles.
It is an account, not a code
You receive login details for a PlayStation Network account that already carries the subscription. It is not refundable once sent, and changing its region or attaching a payment method can lock it.
To play on your own profile, sign in to the purchased account on your console and enable console sharing and offline play. Every profile on that console then gets the benefits, with your own trophies and saves intact. Monthly games are the exception and must be claimed on the subscription account itself.
Paying without a credit card
Sony wants a card registered in the account’s country. Here the payment goes through the mobile wallet you already use, straight from your phone.
We accept MTN MoMo, Orange Money, Airtel Money, Moov Money, Wave, M-Pesa, Telecel Cash, AT Money, Free Money, Vodacom, Tigo and Halotel, depending on where you are. Fourteen countries are covered, and PayPal and card payments work everywhere else. Pick your country at checkout and you only see the wallets that work there, with the price in your local currency.
Common questions
Will cloud streaming work on my connection?
Probably not, unless you have fibre or a very good fixed line. Do not buy Premium for that feature alone.
Are the classic games streamed or downloaded?
Most are downloadable, which is why they remain the better argument for Premium.
How long do the game trials last?
It varies by title, typically a few hours of play.
Do I keep anything if I stop subscribing?
No. The catalogue and the classics stop launching. Your own saves and trophies remain.
Is it refundable?
No, not once the credentials have been sent.
How do I pay without a bank card?
Pick your country and mobile wallet at checkout, then approve the payment on your phone.
