Keep your own playlists

Here is the step almost nobody explains, and the one that makes the difference between being pleased and being annoyed.

Do not abandon your own Spotify account. Sign in to the manager account, open the family plan settings, and send an invitation to the email address of your existing personal account. Accept it from your own account, and your usual profile becomes a Premium member of the plan.

Your playlists, your saved albums, your listening history and your recommendations all stay exactly where they are. The manager account becomes an administrative tool you rarely open, rather than the account you listen on.

What each member gets

No adverts. Downloads for offline listening. Better audio quality. And the ability to play any track directly instead of shuffling.

The offline part is worth dwelling on. Downloading a few albums over wifi and listening all week without touching your data bundle changes what the subscription is actually worth here. For many of our customers that alone covers it.

Every member keeps a separate account, so nobody’s taste contaminates anyone else’s recommendations, and all six can listen at the same time.

On the address requirement

Spotify asks family plan members to live at the same address and verifies it periodically. Members spread across different cities or countries can be removed.

We tell you this before you pay because it is the most common reason a family plan stops working, and because no shop selling one will mention it. Buy it for your household rather than for six friends scattered around.

Paying without a credit card

Spotify charges monthly to a card. This is one payment for twelve months, from the mobile wallet you already use, with nothing renewing automatically.
