Support notice
Microsoft ends support for Project 2021 on 13 October 2026, which is now. There is no extension and no paid extended security updates. The application keeps running and your .mpp files stay yours, but nothing found after that date gets patched.
If you want a version Microsoft still maintains, Project 2024 Professional is covered until October 2029. We are telling you this on the product page rather than after the sale.
What you receive

When 2021 still makes sense
A running project whose files are already shared with people on this version, or an older machine that struggles with the newer release. For a new project starting now, take 2024, because the money you save here no longer buys you any remaining security updates.
Professional or Standard
This is the Professional edition. Against Standard it adds the Team Planner view, resource pooling across several projects, and the ability to connect to Project Server. If you schedule one project at a time on your own, Standard would have been enough and Professional is more than you need.
Installation
- Uninstall any earlier Project version.
- Download from the link that comes with your key.
- Open Project, go to Account, enter the product key.
Runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Project has never had a Mac version. WhatsApp us if the installer refuses to cooperate.

Common questions
Will Project 2021 stop working after 13 October 2026?
No. It opens and your schedules stay yours. What stops is the flow of security patches from Microsoft.
Should I buy 2021 or 2024?
2024, unless your team is already working in 2021 or your machine will not carry the newer release. Support on 2021 has reached its end date, so there is no longer a security argument for saving the difference.
What does Professional add over Standard?
Team Planner, resource pooling across projects, and Project Server connectivity. On a single project managed alone, none of that changes your day.
Does it work on a Mac?
No. Microsoft has never released Project for macOS. On a Mac you would need Windows in a virtual machine, or a different scheduling tool.
Can I share files with someone on Project 2024?
Yes. The .mpp format has been stable since Project 2007, so files move freely between 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2024. Only files from Project 2003 and earlier need converting.
Is Project Online or Project for the Web included?
No. Those are separate subscriptions from Microsoft. This is the desktop application on its own.
Is it a subscription?
No. One payment, one PC, and the licence does not expire.
Can I upgrade to 2024 later?
Yes, by buying a 2024 licence. Microsoft offers no discounted upgrade path between perpetual versions.
Can I move the licence to another PC later?
No. The key binds to your machine’s motherboard. Reinstalling Windows on the same PC is fine and the key reactivates, but a different computer needs a different licence, and replacing the motherboard counts as a different computer.
